BOWIE BAYSOX: Stadium, Food, and More! (Oriole Phanatic Review)
Everything you need to know about the home of the Bowie Baysox.
Before I start my article. I wanna give a quick apology on behalf of each of the BirdlandFeed members. The 5 of us have all ben very busy lately, so Instagram posts have been slow, and there haven’t been any reads. I (Oriole Phanatic) am going to try to get caught up as much as I can as soon as I can. Thank you for your support, and enjoy the read!
Prince George’s Stadium, hidden behind a few stores on Robert S. Crain Highway is a fairly simple stadium, but it definitely has its unique features. For starters, before you even get into the stadium, there are baseball decorations right in the front. There are baseballs lining the sidewalk, similar to the big red balls outside of a Target. Additionally, there’s a large baseball diamond outside the front gate. Young kids can enjoy a mini baseball game before getting into the stadium. Another unique feature is that if you walk down the left field side from outside of the stadium, you can just get to the visitors warehouse. Now I’m not saying you’re allowed to go down to the clubhouse, however (I think) you’re allowed to go over to the area, at the top of the hill, just to look into the stadium (I wouldn’t though, since it’s likely not allowed).
Throughout the concourse, you’ll see banners of the greatest past-Baysox hung up all the way down. Players like Trey Mancini, Manny Machado, and Jonathan Schoop have earned themselves a banner. Another thing that’s common found throughout the stadium is Louie. Louie is… I have no idea what he is. He’s a green…thing. He’s been the mascot since 1997. One thing that most stadiums have in common is food. Both prices and choices are essentially set throughout the MiLB. When I do get food, I usually just get a burger. Like I said, nothing special, but it holds me over.
The Hype man for the Baysox, Evan Johnson, is one of the most energetic in the game. When I went most recently, I was siting down the left field line. He was behind the plate, and I could hear him clearly throughout the entire game. He’ll be a part of the between-inning games, he’ll dance pre-game, and he’s just a very revved up spirit at the game, when they are or losing. He’ll usually be spotted in the seating bowl, where another few things are cool about the ballpark. First, on the right field foul pole (or close to it), there is a big light tower for decoration. The second cool thing is that on either side of the outfield, there are grass berms that can be sat on. However, the bottom one is blocked off from fans (for most instances)
So, would I recommend going to see a Baysox game? Absolutely! There aren’t really any problems with the stadium that I would say are worth not going over.
Nice post, glad you guys are back!
